OCTOBER 2014 EVENTS


23 October

Sonja Tewes, who specialises in Mindfulness Training and Therapeutic Massage, will give a short talk about this unique approach to improved mind and body co-ordination, followed by a 10 minute guided meditation. Refreshments will be provided, with an opportunity for further questions and discussion.

 
Sonja’s talk is at on Thursday, 23 October, at 10:30 a.m. in Chagford Library. The session is free, and open to all age 16 and up.

October 25

deerpark

Come for a walk in the beautiful Whiddon Deer Park, weather permitting. We will enjoy the autumn colours and the wonderful views interspersed with poems. Bring along your favourite poem, or one that you have written and would like to share.

The walk is on Saturday, 25 October, at 2:30 in the Deer Park (or in Chagford Library if wet). All are welcome, but it’s a bit of a climb up to the top of the Deer Park, so you must be able.

SEPTEMBER EVENTS, 2014


26 September

west_devon_connect_imageWest Devon Borough Council holds a West Devon Connect drop-in session every month at Chagford Library.

At these sessions, a Council representative is on hand to help with all public service issues — from debt advice, benefit entitlement, and public housing concerns to applying for a bus pass or enquiring about a water meter for your property.

The next drop-in session is on 26 September, 10.30 am until 12.30 pm. An advisor from Action on Hearing Loss will also be joining the session to answer any hearing-related questions.

10614355_1470977399821062_2861635786304830191_nSharon Duncombe is offering a Tales for Tea bibliotherapy session at Chagford Library on Monday, 15 September, 10.30-12.30 a.m.

She invites readers to join her for ‘the pure pleasure of reading text as the thing itself’, no knowledge of theory or background in critical reading needed. The session costs £6.50, which includes a short story, tea, and biscuits. No reservation needed.

AUGUST EVENTS, 2014


30 August

It’s Carnival Time in Chagford, and the Friends of Chagford Library will be marching in the Carnival Parade dressed as characters from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Would you like to show support for the ibrary? Please come and join us! We have plenty of costumes, and everyone, young and old, is welcome. Pets too!

If you’d like to wear one of our costumes, contact Susan Harley via the Friends mailbox. Or if you’ve already got a costume of your own, join us pre-procession in the Chagford Primary School field, 6 to 6:15 pm. The parade starts at 6:30.

28 August (weather permitting)

story walk deer

Meet at 2.30 pm at Whiddon Deer Park. (Parking will be available.) Bring a picnic and something to sit on, and wear good walking shoes. There will be wonders!

Please speak to Erica at the library for further details about participating in this event. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

3:00: Mad Hat Competition judging, Jubilee Hall. Bounce & Rhyme in the Library.
3:30 Extreme Reading Photo Competition judging, Jubilee Hall.

Live music provided by:

Andy Letcher (bagpipes, to open the event)
Cousins (Becky Doe, violin, and Howard Gayton, guitar)

Costumes kindly provided by the Chagford Pantomime, Jennifer Gayton, & William Todd-Jones; comestibles by the Chagford community.

deep-thoughtsThe good folks from Dogs Trust are joining West Devon Connect on 11 July to offer a free session of dog microchipping at Chagford Library.

“Microchipping will soon be compulsory for all dog owners in England,” they point out, “following an announcement made by the Westminster Government. Get your dog microchipped and have the assurance that should he become lost (or be stolen), he is more likely to be returned to you safe and sound.”

Drop by any time any time between 10:30 and 1:30 with your canine companions.
